Starr
Gospel
Recording Artist, Model, Actress, Speaker and Writer…Starr:
Let’s just say the name speaks for itself. Born and raised
in Kansas City, Kansas, she began singing as a
child in church. After hearing a song titled "Our Love"
sung by Natalie Cole, she understood that songs were meant
to be sung with meaning from her heart. It was at that
point in her life that she knew her passion and gift was to
sing with deep heart felt emotion and truth.
Starr is a writer of songs,
poetry, short stories and dramatic readings. There was a
time when the popular duo, “Peaches and Herb”, reminded her
classmates of herself and her brother. They nicknamed her
Peaches and her older brother’s name was of course Herb
which literally drove
the classmates crazy.
Her experience singing in
groups, choirs, school musicals, theme parks, local
television shows and weddings helped to propel her to higher
levels. She felt that after singing for years with her
three sisters in the gospel group “Yielded Vessels”, it was
time to follow the Lord’s leading to a different level in
ministry. So, she branched off on her own to work on her
solo project titled "Required".
As a soloist, she was chosen
to sing at the “Power to End Stroke Tour” hosted by Dr.
Bobby Jones which was sponsored by The American Heart
Association in Illinois in 2007. Some of her gospel music
influences include Vanessa Bell Armstrong, Yolanda Adams,
Dorinda Clark Cole, Vickie Winans and Lashun Pace Rhodes
just to name a few.
As her passion grows stronger
to reach out to the lost, she reflects upon her own life
experiences and is committed to leading others to Christ
through the gifts and talents He has given her. Just like
the Star of Bethlehem was used by God in the early days, so
shall Starr be used to lead His people back to Christ. As
the Word of God tells us “Even the wise men followed the
Star to Christ!”
On a part time basis, Starr is
an Independent Beauty Consultant for Mary Kay Cosmetics and
currently serves as a Chairman of the Missouri Gospel
Announcers Guild for the Kansas City Area. On a full time
basis, she works as a Project Designer for a major Utility
Company. But more importantly, she is always a servant of
God who is humbled everyday by the calling on her life to
sing, write and obey the will of our Father, Jesus Christ.
